Hello Uphill Climb.. well, to begin with, let us dwell a bit on alpine style climbing .. Alpine style refers to the mountaineers carrying everything on them, from gear to food to medicines to other essentials, without any commercial help. this could actually help them climb at a better speed. So technically, yeas alpine style climbing is possible in Indian Himalayas. But then, it is tough and risky, as there are no rapid means of communication or commute in the Himalayas incase of any medical condition or any other contingency. There are limited support and communication channels in Indian Himalayas. Unfortunately, most of the times, alpine style climbers do not even get proper medical help or support. it is actually completely upto the climbers..

Hi Sheereeb,

Alpine style is typically defined as "A fast and lightweight-style of climbing in the high mountains when climbers carry only the bare essentials of gear, food, water, and bivouac equipment. By climbing light, they are able to climb fast to the summit and then descend." .

Alpine climbing would typically involve one continous push (not pre stocked intermediate camps), no prefixed lines, few if any bolts and an overall gearing towards a "fast and light" mindset.

Yes it is quite difficult & uncommon to do Alpine style climb in the Himalayas these days. But In think Once the himalayas get the infa-structure that the Alps has it will be exactly the same. But there is still a long way to go .

Advise your friend to do a mix of Alpine + some logistical support for communication and load carrying depending on what route is he taking .
