Thanks for the nice write-up; will read it carefully over the weekend to do it full justice.

A quick response:
I wouldn't call it a failed expedition though. In my view, unless you are a professional climber setting a speed record or a first ascent (or climbing with someone else's money), a successful climb is one where you enjoy the route, and come back with no injuries and only great pictures and memories and valuable experience, and by those measures you seem to have had an extremely successful climb! Congrats!
