Need information for climbing Mount Thelu.
How many days will it take for the expedition?
Are any permits required?
What is the best season to do this?

Overview :

Mt. Thelu (19800 feet) falls in the Garhwal range of the Himalayas. The region is called a mountaineer's paradise, as one has ample opportunities to climb here. Mountaineers from all around the world can be seen here, with dreams of climbing one of the mountains in the region. The range consists of some of the main peaks of the Garhwal region, like, Mt. Shivling, Mt. Meru 1,2,3, Mt. Thalaysagar, Mt. Saifi 1,2, Mt. Sudarshan, Mt. Bhrigupanth, Mt. Kedar Dome, Mt. Chaukhamba, Mt. Bhagirathi 1,2,3, Mt. Satopanth and countless unnamed peaks.

Getting There

To plan an expedition to Mt. Thelu, one has to take the following route

New Delhi (Capital of India) - Rishikesh - Uttarkashi - Gangotri - All of this can be covered by road .

Gangaotri to Gaumukh is about a 14 kms trek , The trek route is fairly simple. There is a nice trekking path used by both the trekkers as well as the pony back riders. Now that Gangotri is a national park, trekkers or pony back riders have to pay specified fees depending on the purpose of his/her visit to Gangotri and further up. There is no need to utilize your provisions as the whole route has well maintained dhabas, providing tired trekkers decent food and a place to rest, if necessary, for a night at economical rates. The route to Gaumukh takes you through 2 major stops one at Chirbasa (8kms from Gangotri) and the second one at Bhojbasa (11kms from Gangotri). Base camp can be established roughly about another 5kms from Gaumukh at 14800 feet , Advance base camp at 16500 feet and camp 1 at 18,500 .
